My interest in genealogy surged when I discovered my Scottish heritage. Then my German and Irish and English ancestors floated into the picture; more and more people appeared on my genetic map. I suddenly wanted, no I had to have, a portrait of all the personalities who lived on this earth so that my moment could unfold. The drive to find these people became an obsession. The research consumed me; it was a wonderful detective story, a temporal jigsaw puzzle, a crazy passion. It also fueled strong interests in history, customs, travel, communication, technology; all the things teachers tried to fed me when I had no clue and no desire to understand.

Now my time on earth seems so short and I have so much to do and so much to tell my own descendants; my grand kids and great grand kids. So, I wrote this book. I didn't know when I started that it was a collection of learned opinions from my past relatives. They told me it was a record of my right brain combined with telegrams deposited in the posterior sulcus for ancestral communications; the brain center that receives messages from the dead. Go ahead and guffaw, believe it or not (I don't care), but that's the way it was.

I could have written a family history like so many others have done, but something happened to me- hard to explain. As if riding a subtle energy wave, I became aware that my ancestors wanted to speak for themselves, through me, but in the voice that does not speak directly and without ambiguity. I am speaking of the automatic, dreamlike writing that flows into the hand and pushes ink onto the page. I relax, they talk, I just write it down.
