Projects and Grants

Projects:

The Institute for Innovative Blind Navigation has two major projects:

A World Congress on Blind Navigation Technologies for the Blind in October 2005.

Wayfinding Technology camps, the first to be held in the summer of 2006.

Information about these two major events is discussed in the section called What's New.

Both major projects are in the design and fund raising stage. We are seeking co-sponsors, grant revenue, and support from vendors, service clubs, and private donors. Contact project coordinator Brunhilde Merk-Adams: at .

IIBN has several other projects in the development pipeline. These are discussed in the section called "Global Initiatives". All of our global projects are under review and subject to change in priority and organization. IIBN is in the process of reassessing it's mission statement, moving away from training and product championing toward knowledge management, conference development (bringing the field together on a neutral platform), and policy oversight ( a wayfinding think tank).

IIBN is also undergoing a major restructuring under the leadership of Dan Kish, CEO of World Access for the Blind, and IIBN board member. Dan is working with IIBN's board of directors and with Doug Baldwin, IIBN's founder and executive director, to strengthen the financial position, and the organizational structure of the agency. Dan's suggestions and leadership have been a primary factor in the imagining and development of the World Congress and the Technology Camps.

Grants:

IIBN has received numerous grants since the agency's birth in 1997. Significant grants came from two sources:

NEC Foundation of America

Margaret McNally Charitable Trust
